EERE: Keystone's IBGS a "promising design for hurricane-prone areas"

The US Department of Energy's Office of Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy (EERE) featured Keystone's Inward Battered Guide Structure (IBGS) in this article which details how offshore wind farms are being developed to withstand hurricanes in US waters.


With major devastation still visible in areas impacted by hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria in 2017, resiliency to tropical cyclones has become a very important topic of discussion in the US energy industry. As the article points out, Keystone's IBGS foundation design shows great potential for offshore wind turbine a


pplications, in large part due to the structure's reputation for strength. The initial deployment of the IBGS foundation used to support an oil & gas platform in the Gulf of Mexico withstood a direct hit from Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and was unscathed by the 400-year storm.
