Keystone Employees Support Collegiate STEM Program

September 14, 2015

Several Keystone employees took the opportunity to give a presentation on professional licensure to students enrolled in the Mechanical Engineering Program at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette (ULL).

The session focused on the importance of licensure and the role of licensed engineers in industry. Ben Chauvin, P.E. and Allen Phillips, P.E. from Keystone’s Lafayette office discussed the process of applying and preparing for the Professional Engineer (P.E.) examination with students.

“Properly preparing for the exam is key to passing it on the first attempt. If you put in the hours studying you are much more likely to be successful.” said Phillips.

During the session, students were given the opportunity to ask questions specific to their prospective career paths. Many had questions on eligibility requirements and individual scenarios. Both Phillips and Chauvin provided guidance and shared their experiences with the application process.

When asked about the benefits of being a P.E. in certain industries, Chauvin gave students sound advice.

“Professional licensure is a great insurance policy for your career and will open the door to many opportunities as an engineer. Start the process now!”
